How we choose and rank software.
A shortlist should explain its decisions. Here is what goes into these guides, what the order means, and where our evidence stops.
Start with a specific job
Document processing and workflow automation are broad categories. We separate an occasional PDF conversion from recurring extraction, and a hosted app connection from a self-hosted system. Each guide states the audience and the constraints that determine its order.
Use inspectable sources
These editions are desk-researched comparisons using official product pages, documentation, pricing and licensing information. The source list sits alongside every product. We do not represent a source review as hands-on testing, quote a vendor's accuracy as a measured result, or invent customer outcomes.
Rank by fit, with the tradeoff visible
The order is an editorial judgment about the stated use case. We consider input and output support, setup work, human review, operating responsibility, integration fit and the way usage is billed. We do not publish synthetic star ratings or imply that the first tool wins every task. A developer API can be first in a developer guide and a poor choice for an occasional office conversion.
Make prices comparable enough to question
We state the billing basis beside a price: monthly or annual commitment, per user or per account, and pages, documents, tasks, credits or workflow executions. Different meters are not added into a universal cost score. Where pricing is dynamic, region-dependent or not publicly clear, the guide links to the vendor and says what remains to be confirmed.
Disclose our own products
Soxoa is an AI consulting firm and software operator. Soxoa owns Dokyumi, an extraction product included in some document-processing guides. Its entries are labelled. Ownership does not determine the first position, and the same fit and limitation questions apply. Soxoa's consulting engagements are separate from the self-service software in the lists.
Keep commercial relationships visible
Links in this edition go directly to vendor sites. An owned-product link is labelled where it appears. If an edition later includes an affiliate link or sponsored placement, that relationship must be disclosed beside the link or placement. A paid placement must be distinguishable from the editorial order.
Give you a way to check the recommendation
Every guide includes an evaluation you can run with permitted, representative inputs. Compare complete outputs, exception handling and operating work. An easy demonstration is not a production acceptance test; the guide names the decisions a trial should resolve.
Correct and revisit the facts
Each edition carries its source-check date. Material corrections update the affected entry and the guide's date. To report a changed plan, broken source or factual error, email hello@soxoa.com with the guide URL and a supporting source.
