The short answer
Choose around the correction and posting workflow. A lower OCR price helps little if the bookkeeper must rebuild every invoice or manually reconcile incomplete batches.
For a bookkeeper, a successful invoice extraction is a record that can be reconciled and reviewed before posting. Supplier identity, invoice number, tax, currency, totals and line items must stay associated with the right document. A tidy spreadsheet can still contain a duplicate invoice or the wrong tax treatment.
We rank these tools by their documented fit for recurring invoice work. Nanonets leads for configurable workflow steps; Docparser and Parseur offer approachable export routes. Rossum and ABBYY become more relevant as review, integration and organizational requirements grow. Dokyumi fits teams building their own structured intake rather than buying a full accounts-payable system.
This is a shortlist for evaluation, not a claim that one tool reads invoices more accurately. The evidence comes from official documentation and current plan pages. None of these descriptions substitutes for checking your supplier mix, accounting rules and actual export path.
The shortlist at a glance
Prices use the billing basis shown. Page, task, credit and execution allowances measure different things. On a small screen, scroll the table horizontally.
| Tool | Best fit | Price and billing basis |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Nanonets | Configurable invoice review flows | US$50 starting credits; pricing then lists US$100/month for 100 credits. Usage charges depend on block types and run counts. |
| 2. Docparser | Known suppliers and recurring layouts | Starter: US$39/month for 100 credits and 15 parsers. One credit covers one document up to five pages; longer files use more. |

What matters for this decision
- Accounting meaning
- Test credits, tax, currencies, invoice references and line-item totals rather than scoring only visible text.
- Review before release
- Check whether the product provides a review workbench, configurable stages or only output your application must review.
- Delivery and duplication
- Verify your destination fields, failure handling and duplicate checks; an integration logo is not an end-to-end accounting specification.
- Full monthly cost
- Include document lengths, workflow operations, contract minimums and the time spent correcting or resubmitting invoices.
The ranked picks
Nanonets
Best for configurable invoice review flows
Nanonets assembles document workflows from extraction, transformation, lookup, review and export blocks. Review rules can stop a file for correction or approval before downstream delivery. It is useful when capturing text is only one step and the team also needs to validate, route and integrate the result.
Rules can send failed checks or larger amounts through review stages before export, useful when several business checks follow the initial field extraction.
The tradeoff: Validate the accounting connection and billable operations for your particular workflow.
Price and billing: US$50 starting credits; pricing then lists US$100/month for 100 credits. Usage charges depend on block types and run counts.
Check before choosing: Extraction runs per page; field and row operations can add runs and cost.
Docparser
Best for known suppliers and recurring layouts
Docparser combines parsing rules, OCR and document-specific filters to extract fields and repeating tables from business documents. It supports direct Excel, CSV, JSON and XML exports alongside an HTTP API and webhooks. Its layout and formatting controls suit repeatable documents that an operator can configure and maintain.
Explicit rules, repeating-table extraction and spreadsheet exports suit a bookkeeper with a manageable set of supplier layouts and a defined import format.
The tradeoff: More layout variations can require additional setup and paid plan features.
Price and billing: Starter: US$39/month for 100 credits and 15 parsers. One credit covers one document up to five pages; longer files use more.
Check before choosing: Multi-layout parsing costs extra on Starter/Professional; Smart Tables begins on Professional.
Parseur
Best for an email-to-spreadsheet queue
Parseur routes emails and documents through mailboxes with fields defined by AI instructions or layout templates. It exports extracted data to Excel, CSV, JSON and connected applications. That combination fits recurring intake where the same information must reach a spreadsheet or another business system.
Its mailbox model is useful for collecting invoice emails and attachments, then sending defined fields to a sheet or connected tool.
The tradeoff: Email bodies and attachments are separate documents; shared users require a higher tier.
Price and billing: 20 pages/month free. Micro lists US$49/month for 100 pages, or US$468 billed annually. One credit equals one page.
Check before choosing: Shared multi-user access requires Scale plans starting at 10,000 credits/month.
Rossum
Best for higher-volume exception handling
Rossum combines document ingestion, extraction and a human-validation interface with an archive and API access. Higher tiers add master-data matching, duplicate handling and custom business logic. Its value proposition is an operational document process with exception handling, rather than a lightweight utility for converting an occasional PDF.
A built-in validation screen, archive and higher-tier master-data matching make it relevant when the team needs an operational invoice process across many documents.
The tradeoff: The annual starting price and one-year commitment need a credible volume-based case.
Price and billing: Starter begins at US$18,000/year with a one-year minimum contract. Volume, workflow complexity, integrations and add-ons affect the quote.
Check before choosing: Annual commitment and quoted capacity require a volume-based business case.
ABBYY Vantage
Best for invoice work inside enterprise automation
ABBYY Vantage organizes intelligent document processing around pre-trained and custom document skills. Its low-code designer, human review and connectors support workflows that feed enterprise automation systems. Cloud, on-premises and private Azure deployment options make it relevant where deployment control and existing RPA infrastructure matter alongside field extraction.
Reusable document skills and automation connectors suit organizations joining invoice capture to an established RPA, ERP or wider document-processing program.
The tradeoff: Expect platform configuration and integration rather than a lightweight bookkeeping utility.
Price and billing: No standardized amount verified on the checked product page; request a scope-specific demonstration and quote.
Check before choosing: Skill configuration and system integration make this a platform implementation, not a simple converter.
Dokyumi
Best for custom invoice intake and JSON · Soxoa-owned
Dokyumi returns JSON shaped by a saved custom schema, with model-reported field confidence and validation details. Intake can use its dashboard, REST API or branded customer upload portals. The application receiving the result keeps control of business checks and approval; a processing status does not approve a transaction.
Use a schema for the fields and line items your application needs, with portals for submissions and confidence/validation attached to the response.
The tradeoff: Build the accounting checks and posting controls yourself; Soxoa owns this product.
Price and billing: 25 credits/month free. Starter: US$99/month for 500 credits. One file uses one credit per five pages, rounded up; no automatic overages.
Check before choosing: Self-service files stop at 50 pages; confidence still needs document-specific evaluation.
Choose by the constraint you have
- A solo bookkeeper needs a recurring spreadsheet: Docparser or ParseurChoose based on stable layouts versus mailbox intake, then test the actual import format.
- Several approval rules must run before export: NanonetsVerify each failure path and reviewer responsibility during the pilot.
- A larger AP team needs a review platform: Rossum or ABBYY VantageScope volume, integration and contract obligations before comparing extraction rates.
Test an invoice batch before enabling posting
- Include invoices, credit notes, duplicate copies and multi-page examples from the suppliers that create the most rework.
- Create expected header and line-item values. Reconcile subtotal, discounts, tax and total in the appropriate currency.
- Export into a staging spreadsheet or accounting sandbox; check field mapping, missing documents and the duplicate path.
- Measure correct complete invoices, correction time and total batch cost. Keep posting behind an explicit reviewed release step.
Keep the trial result and the original input together. A vendor feature list establishes what to investigate; it does not establish your accuracy, savings or operating cost.
Questions before you commit
Does invoice OCR replace accounting approval?
No. Extraction identifies information on a document. Approval also depends on supplier records, purchase authorization, duplicate status, tax treatment and business policy. A completed extraction response is not authorization to pay or post an invoice.
Are line items necessary for every bookkeeping workflow?
Not always. Some workflows need only approved header totals; others need expense coding or purchase-order matching by line. Define the required record first so the comparison rewards useful fields rather than a longer list of extracted values.
Which accuracy number should we use?
Measure your own batch. Report required-field accuracy, complete-invoice accuracy and incorrect values separately, alongside correction time. Avoid promoting a vendor’s general percentage into a guarantee for your layouts, scan quality or accounting rules.
