Terms of Use — Rarebit

Cards have no monetary value

This is the most important thing on this page. Cards, mint numbers, grades, rarity tiers and the in-app index unit called Bites have no monetary value whatsoever. They cannot be bought, sold, cashed out, redeemed or exchanged for anything of value. Bites exist only so two people can judge whether a swap is even.

Selling, buying or auctioning Rarebit cards for real money, cryptocurrency or anything else of value is not permitted, and any such arrangement is entirely between the people involved. We provide no marketplace, take no commission, and will not adjudicate disputes over one.

Nothing you can buy changes an outcome

A Rarebit Plus subscription unlocks portfolio history, collection analytics, cosmetic frames, an unlimited wantlist, a larger showcase and data export. It does not, and will not, change foil odds, grades, rarity tiers, mint numbers or set completion. Those are identical for every player, paying or not. Current odds, including the pity curve, are published inside the app under Settings.

Subscriptions

Rarebit Plus is an auto-renewing subscription, billed monthly or yearly through your Apple Account. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel it in the App Store at any time; cancelling takes effect at the end of the period already paid for.

Any free trial ends immediately if you subscribe. Unused trial time is forfeited when a subscription is purchased. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies, not by us.

Your captures are yours

You keep ownership of every photo you take. We claim no licence over them, because they never reach us — they stay on your device. When you share a card, you are publishing that image yourself, wherever you choose to send it.

Photograph food you are allowed to photograph. Some restaurants ask you not to. Respect that.

Playing honestly

Rarebit checks that a capture came from a real camera pointed at real food. Photographing a screen, a printed picture or a menu image will mint an unverified card, which stays in your binder but earns no mint number, cannot be traded and does not complete sets. That is the intended behaviour, not a fault.

Deliberately attempting to defeat those checks, tamper with the app, or manufacture cards by any means other than taking a photograph is a breach of these terms.

Trading

Trades happen directly between two devices in the same room. We are not a party to them, do not hold anything in escrow, and cannot reverse one. Rarebit appraises both sides and warns you before you give up your only copy of a dish, break a completed set, or hand over a low mint or a Gem 10 — but the decision is yours and it is final.

Venue drops

Some cards are issued as limited editions in partnership with a venue and can only be claimed on site during a stated window. Edition sizes and windows are fixed and may sell out. A drop is a feature of the app, not an offer, reservation or guarantee of anything from the venue itself.

Availability and changes

Rarity tiers are derived from how often a dish is caught across the network, so they are expected to move over time. A card becoming more or less rare is the system working as designed, not a loss of something promised to you.

We may update the app, change or retire features, and adjust the catalog. If a change would materially affect existing cards, we will say so.

No warranty; limitation of liability

Rarebit is provided as is, without warranty of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Soxoa LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the app, and total liability will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law rules.
